The administration of President Donald Trump plans to recognize Russian control over Crimea as part of its proposal for ending the war with Ukraine.

According to sources from CNN, the US government plans to consider Russian control over Crimea as one of the components of its proposal regarding the resolution of the conflict with Ukraine. Crimea is a territory of Ukraine that was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014. Additionally, four more Ukrainian regions are partially occupied by Russia as a result of the conflict that started in 2022.

The US proposal also includes establishing a ceasefire across the entire front line. A working agreement was presented to Europeans and Ukrainians in Paris, and Russia was also informed during a phone call between the US Secretary of State and the Russian Foreign Minister.

Previously, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that his government would not recognize any territories occupied by Russia.

Despite this, the Trump administration hopes to reach a peace agreement. They plan to make changes to some aspects of the working agreement and continue negotiations with Europeans and Ukrainians. Furthermore, it is planned to include Russia in the dialogue through a meeting of Trump's Middle East envoy with Russian representatives.
