Ukraine is facing a power shortage in the winter period, which could reach 3-4 GW. This was reported in the updated IMF memorandum on economic and financial policy as part of the fifth review of the credit program. The Ukrainian authorities have plans to restore the energy sector, including the installation of 1 GW of capacity by 2024. In addition, electricity imports from the EU of more than 2 GW are envisaged, as well as the repair of damaged equipment. The power shortage is linked to the damage to half of the generating capacities, such as thermal and hydroelectric power plants, due to Russian missile attacks.
