New actions of the UOC-MP raise doubts
The head of the parliamentary committee on humanitarian and information policy Mykyta Poturaiev expressed certain doubts about the sincerity of the UOC-MP leadership in relations with Moscow. He noted that although some changes have been made, the state service for ethnic politics and freedom of conscience has already begun checks, and despite new statements, the church's independence from Russian influence may not have been fully achieved.
“History shows that such statements often have a declarative nature... Formally, they continue to defend the statute that directly links them to the ROC, although the law requires a complete rupture of these ties.”
In particular, Poturaiev noted that despite new statements, the Moscow church has not expressed a reaction and continues to consider the UOC-MP its church. He also pointed out the declarative nature of recent events, stating that similar decisions were made earlier, but in reality, nothing changed.
Concerns about the position of the UOC-MP
Poturaiev also expressed concerns about the intentions of the Moscow Patriarchate, noting that despite statements about independence, there is a risk that the UOC-MP will remain under the influence of the Russian church. Currently, the issue of severing ties with the ROC remains open, and the actions of the UOC-MP continue to raise certain doubts.
