In Mariupol, the level of drinking water in the Stary Krym reservoir has critically decreased.

There is less and less drinking water in Mariupol
The level of drinking water in Mariupol in the Stary Krym reservoir is rapidly declining, reported the adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andriuschenko. The depletion has been ongoing since 2023, but the situation is becoming critical starting from August 2024. According to him, the problem is that the Stary Krym reservoir is not meant for permanent water supply to Mariupol and is used only as a reserve. After occupation, it became the main source of water.
In the spring, Mariupol will face a serious water supply problem due to the lack of water from the main canal 'Siversky Donets'. The extent of the decrease in the water level is currently not exactly known, but local residents claim that it has decreased by at least five meters during the autumn. A similar situation is also observed in Berdyansk.
Satellite data and recent photographs show that the level of the reservoir and the Bedra River in Berdyansk are decreasing. The water level has been falling since September. According to reports from the occupation administration of Berdyansk, as of October 30, 2024, the depth of the reservoir was 18.2 meters.
The Kalmius River, flowing in the Donetsk region, is polluted due to the activities of Russian invaders. As a result, a complex situation with water supply has arisen near the temporarily occupied city of Mariupol.
