No one has seen anything like it before: scientists claim to have discovered a new color.

A group of scientists announced the discovery of a new color that no one has ever seen. According to the research results, the scientists directed laser pulses into the eyes of the participants in the experiment, and they reported seeing a blue-green shade called 'olo'.
Experts indicate that the existence of this new color is a subject of discussion.
The research results were published in the scientific journal Science Advances. One of the authors of the study, Professor Ren Eng from the University of California, called the discovery astounding. He believes it could be useful for research in the field of color blindness. Professor Eng described 'olo' as a saturated color that cannot be seen in the real world.
During the experiment, the laser was directed into the pupil of each participant. Five volunteers with normal vision took part in the experiment. During the study, they looked at a special device with mirrors, lasers, and optical components.
In the retina of the eye, there are cones that are responsible for color perception. There are three types of cones, each of which responds to different wavelengths of light. In the study, the laser stimulated only M-cones, which led to the appearance of the color 'olo'.
Some experts believe this is a matter of interpretation. Professor John Barbour from City St George's University in London emphasizes that although this is a technological achievement, the discovery of a new color is still controversial.
However, Professor Eng continues to study the research results to understand how this may affect people with color blindness. He believes that 'olo' could be significant for those who have difficulties distinguishing colors.
Analysis
The research opens new perspectives for studying colors and their impact on the human visual system. The discovery of a new color could have potential value for understanding the characteristics of color blindness and developing new treatment methods. It is important to continue research in this field and uncover new factors that influence color perception.
