When flowers burst on the rose bushes in the garden, many homeowners want to have the same beauty in their area. And there are no problems with that! Experienced gardeners shared how easy it is to propagate these plants in July 2025.

How to propagate rose bushes in the garden

Step one - choosing a 'donor'

Before proceeding with the propagation of roses, it is necessary to choose the right 'donor'. Look at all your plants and choose a healthy shoot that has already finished flowering or is nearly done. This shoot should have three to four well-developed buds.

Step two - preparing the tools

For propagation, you will need a sharp knife or secateurs, which must be thoroughly sterilized before starting the procedure. Wipe the blades of the tools with alcohol to prevent infection.

Step three - cutting cuttings

Cut cuttings 15-20 centimeters long, with the lower cut made at an angle below the lower bud. The upper cut should be straight, one centimeter above the upper bud.

Step four - preparing the leaves

Completely remove the lower leaves, leaving one or two of the upper ones, but trim them in half.

Step five - encouraging growth and planting

Dip the lower angled cut into root stimulant powder, then prepare a small pot with drainage holes filled with a mixture of peat and sand. Use a pencil to make a shallow hole and insert the cutting so that the lower bud is above the soil level. After that, carefully compact the soil and water the plant.

Step six - creating a greenhouse

Take a clear plastic bottle with the bottom cut off, a glass jar, or a regular plastic bag and place it over the cutting to create a greenhouse.
