In 1958, after the death of Pope Pius XII, the team 'Avellino' was promoted to Serie C.
In 1963, after bidding farewell to Pope John XXIII, the club was promoted after a previous demotion.
In 1978, when two popes died and two conclaves occurred, 'Avellino' achieved its most significant victory, getting promoted to Serie A.
In 2005, after the death of Karol Wojtyla, the team won the playoffs against 'Napoli'.
In 2013, when Benedict XVI abdicated the papacy, 'Avellino' was promoted again, moving up to Serie B. Pope Benedict died in 2022.
In the current season, competing in Serie C, 'Avellino' secured a promotion.
Interestingly, Pope Francis visited 'Avellino' in January this year. He blessed the football club and signed its jersey.
After the death of Pope Francis, cardinals from around the world gather for a conclave to elect a new Pope. A secret ballot will be held. In total, cardinals under the age of 80 participate in the voting.
The funeral of Pope Francis will take place on Saturday, April 26, at 10:00 AM. The Holy Mass will be led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re.
US President Donald Trump has also stated that he will attend the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome.
