The National Restaurant Association of the USA notes that this problem is particularly felt by dining establishments. Even the Waffle House chain was forced to introduce a temporary surcharge of 50 cents for each egg due to product shortages.
Even criminals have shown interest in the egg shortage. In Pennsylvania, 100,000 eggs worth $40,000 were stolen from a truck transporting groceries.
