Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians honor the memory of all those whose lives were taken by the Russo-Ukrainian war. Today, we remember Ivan Popovich.

Defender of Ukraine, soldier, machine gunner of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporizhzhia Ivan Mykhailovych Popovich, with the call sign Rumin, died on September 18, 2024, as a result of enemy assault actions on the positions of his unit near the settlement of Vodiane in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk region. This is reported by 'Glavkom' citing the Obukhiv City Council.

Ivan Popovich was born on April 20, 1980, in a picturesque corner of Transcarpathia, in the village of Hlybokyi Potik of the Tyachiv district. Here he spent his childhood and youth. From a young age, Ivan began working with his father in construction. He dedicated his entire life to this.

In 2000, Ivan moved to Obukhiv, taking on temporary work as a builder. In 2008, he met his future wife Nadia and settled permanently in the Obukhiv region.

Later, in this friendly and loving family, a son Artem was born, who became a ray of happiness and joy for Ivan. There was a very warm relationship between father and son, and they spent a lot of Time together. In fact, Ivan loved to take his family out into nature, go mushroom picking, gather with friends, and go camping. But his favorite hobby was fishing.

'Ivan was an extraordinarily kind and sensitive person, hardworking and skilled, he did not like to sit idle. The most precious thing for him was his family and their shared peaceful life. This was suddenly interrupted by war, just like in the lives of millions of other Ukrainians. The war tarnished everything that was dreamed of, distorted everything that was planned,' the city council's statement reads.

In the summer of 2024, Ivan joined the armed forces as a volunteer and was accepted for military service under contract. He was stationed on combat positions in Donetsk region. He took the call sign Rumin. But the life of this brave warrior was cut short during combat operations near Vodiane in Donetsk region. At first, he was considered missing in action. His wife and son waited for his return for seven long months with hope and faith, longing for at least a small message from him, but instead, the family received a notification paper bearing the most terrifying news that could have happened.

Defender of Ukraine, soldier Ivan Popovich, died on September 18, 2024, as a result of enemy assault actions on the positions of his unit near the settlement of Vodiane in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk region.

The farewell to the warrior took place on April 14, 2025, in the city of Obukhiv.

The defender is survived by his wife Nadia, son Artem, father Mykhailo Ivanovych, and sisters Hanna, Maria, and Pavlina.

'Glavkom' joins the moment of silence. We honor the memory of all Ukrainians who died in the struggle for their homeland. We remember those who perished at the hands of Russian invaders, light candles of remembrance, and bow our heads in grief during the nationwide moment of silence, honoring the bright memory of Ukrainian citizens who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the state: all military personnel, civilians, and children, all who died in the fight against Russian occupiers and as a result of the attack by enemy troops on Ukrainian cities and villages.
