Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called on drivers to maintain self-defense in case of danger during protests. He warned that drivers have the right to protect themselves. However, Miami attorney Marc Eiglarsh emphasized the need for the justification of the use of force.
“If you are driving on one of these streets, and a crowd approaches, surrounds your car, and threatens you, you have the right to flee for your own safety, so if you are driving and hit someone from that crowd, it is their fault for crossing your path,” DeSantis told NBC6.
“The right to use deadly force in Florida only applies when you reasonably fear death or serious bodily injury; you do not have free reign to hit protesters just because they are near your car,” he added.
Call for Florida drivers to adhere to traffic rules
It should be noted that even in dangerous situations on the road, drivers should follow traffic rules, avoid conflict situations, and refrain from using disproportionate force.
