$44 million in gas and solar: 'Metinvest' insures production against new blackouts.

'Metinvest' has begun investing more than $44 million in its own energy sources - gas reciprocating and solar power plants, to protect production from potential energy risks in case of military conflict. The first gas reciprocating power plants were launched in April this year, and new ones are planned to be launched by summer, along with the construction of 40 MW of solar power plants. The company plans to meet half of its needs with its own power plants by 2030. This was reported by 'Metinvest's' Chief Operating Officer Oleksandr Myronenko.
Investments in gas reciprocating and solar plants
The first gas reciprocity power plant was launched at 'Kamevstal' on April 15, and similar stations are planned to be launched at other group enterprises by the end of May. Total investments in gas generation will amount to $26 million by 2025. The following year, an investment of $18.1 million is planned in solar power plants at other group enterprises.
'Metinvest' intends to ensure that 50% of its electricity comes from its own generation within three to four years to avoid the risk of equipment shutdown in the event of a central network disconnection. To this end, the company is developing the capacities of gas reciprocating and solar power plants, and is also considering the possibility of installing gas turbine generators.
Compared to the previous year, the amount of taxes paid by the company in 2024 increased by 36% to 20 billion UAH. Since February 2022, more than 30 billion UAH has been invested in capital construction in Ukraine, making it the second highest indicator in the country.
